What Happened?

Today is Tuesday, November 3 and I just received my October Record in the mail. If I wanted to make the deadline for submitting a cover design for December, I would already be too late as the deadline was October 15th apparently. The lectionary article was for October 11. Oops, too late again. What happened? Would I be better off to let my subscription lapse and just read the articles on my computer? The website has November articles already and is certainly more current.

The Publisher responds: What happened was a perfect storm of delays. A magazine is a perfect trail of deadlines; miss one and suffer missing the rest in the chain. The Record takes full responsibility for the delays suffered over the October issue; and apologizes to readers and advertisers.

However, we hope you will grant us that we are normally ahead of the cycle. It is difficult to time delivery across Canada. Halifax, Montreal and parts of central Ontario have been known to receive an issue more than a week ahead of central British Columbia, for example. There is an equally wide variance even within Ontario. We aim to have the magazine at Canada Post by the end of the third week of the preceding month, with the hope it’ll be in your hands before the first.
